Vabalninkas is a small town in Panevėžys County in northern Lithuania, located near the Lithuanian-Latvian border, about 30 kilometers from the city of Panevėžys. The town has a long history, dating back as far as the 14th century, and was once an important trading post during the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and still retains a strong medieval flavor. The town's St. John's Church, built in the 15th century, is one of the most iconic historical buildings in the area, with its Gothic style and interior frescoes bearing witness to the changing times. With a population of around 3,000 and an economy based on agriculture, small businesses and seasonal tourism, Vabarninkas' peaceful atmosphere and well-preserved old town attract visitors to experience Lithuania's rural charm. As part of the culture of northern Lithuania, traditional folklore festivals are also organized annually, showcasing the unique ethnic customs of the region.
