Wenchuan County is located in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China, in the northwestern part of the Sichuan Basin, which is the transition zone between the Western Sichuan Plateau and the Chengdu Plain. Characterized by Qiang and Tibetan cultures, the county is rich in natural landscapes and human heritage, such as the Wolong National Nature Reserve (a habitat for giant pandas) and the Yingxiu Earthquake Site, which was devastated by the 2008 Wenchuan Earthquake, but has been rebuilt and is now developing into an important tourism and ecological demonstration area. With a population of about 100,000, the economy is based on agriculture and tourism, and the climate is mild with four distinct seasons.
