Dongxiang Tribe in Gansu, China: An Ethnic Treasure on the Loess Plateau
Dongxiang is a unique ethnic minority in China, mainly living in Dongxiang Autonomous County, Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province, and partly in Linxia, Lanzhou, Gansu and Yili, Xinjiang, with a population of about 700,000 people. The Dongxiang language belongs to the Mongolian group of the Altaic language family, and Chinese characters are commonly used. They believe in Islam, and their cultural practices are unique. Its settlement Dongxiang Autonomous County is located in the Loess Plateau hilly gully area, mainly agricultural, producing taro, wheat, "Dongxiang taro" is famous.
