Luang Prabang: A Thousand-Year-Old Capital and Cultural Heritage Jewel of Laos
Located in northern Laos at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khang rivers, Luang Prabang is the former capital of Laos and one of the best-preserved ancient cities in Southeast Asia with a fusion of French and traditional Southeast Asian architecture.Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, this 1,000 year-old town is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere, longstanding Buddhist culture and French colonial flavor. Strolling through Luang Prabang, the red-brick temples, French-style houses and tropical greenery are intertwined, as if traveling back to the old time, which is an ideal place to experience the slow life in Laos.
