Located in the western part of Jeollabuk-do, South Korea, Gokcheong-gun is a region known for its agriculture, natural beauty and cultural heritage. It is bordered by Buon County to the east and the Yellow Sea to the west, with a total area of about 607 square kilometers and a population of about 60,000 people. The county has a diverse topography including plains, hills and coastline, with the Gokcheong Plain being one of Korea's important granaries, known for producing high-quality rice and watermelons.
Kojang-gun is rich in ecological resources, such as the Kojang Mudflats, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and are an important habitat for migrating birds. In addition, it preserves Korea's largest group of branch stone tombs (prehistoric stone tomb ruins), showing the civilization of the Bronze Age. The county also retains traditional hanok villages and folk events, such as the Gokjang Lotus Leaf Festival, which attracts tourists to experience rural culture and nature.
The economy is based on agriculture combined with tourism. Tourists can visit Gopang Hanok Village, Jiseok Tomb Park, or ride along the coast of the Yellow Sea. Conveniently connected to major cities such as Gwangju and Seoul by railroad and highway, Gojang-gun is an ideal destination for those seeking tranquility and historical charm.
