Gongshan Dulong and Nu Autonomous County is located in the northwestern part of China's Yunnan Province, belonging to the Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, and is situated in the longitudinal valley area of the Hengduan Mountains, bordering on Myanmar. The county covers an area of 4,506 square kilometers and has a population of about 35,000, with the Dulong and Nu ethnic minorities accounting for 96% of the total population. The county has the Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve and the core area of the "Three Parallel Rivers" World Natural Heritage, and is rich in biodiversity.
Gongshan is famous for its precipitous Nujiang River Canyon, Dulong River secret area and primitive forests, with the highest altitude of 5128 meters and the lowest altitude of 1170 meters, forming a three-dimensional climate zone. Intangible cultural heritages such as the Dulong tattooed face woman culture and the Nu Fairy Festival are unique. The main economy is based on agriculture and eco-tourism, and attractions such as Gundang Shenshan, Shi Lunar, and Bengzhongluo attract many hiking enthusiasts.
After the Dulongjiang Tunnel was opened in 2020, the year-round traffic capacity was significantly increased, but it is still one of the less accessible counties along the Yunnan border. The local area is rich in mountain treasures such as grass nuts and matsutake mushrooms, and is developing ecological planting and ethnic cultural experience tourism, making it an important ecological barrier and window for ethnic and cultural exchanges in northwestern Yunnan.
