Markang is the capital of Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province, located in the northwestern plateau of Sichuan and the southeast edge of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, and is the core of the Jiajung Tibetan area.
