Wuxiang County, Shanxi Province, China: a red cultural mecca deep in the Taihang Mountains
Wuxiang County is located in Changzhi City, Shanxi Province, in the hinterland of the Taihang Mountains, a famous old revolutionary area, known as "the hometown of the Eighth Route Army and the cradle of the soldiers". 1937 to 1945, the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army, the CPC Central Committee's North Bureau and other organs were permanently stationed in this area, and the old generation of revolutionaries, such as Zhu De, Peng Dehuai, and Liu Bocheng commanded major battles such as the Hundred Regiments War here. This place not only carries heavy revolutionary history, but also integrates Taihang folk culture, with unique flavors of specialties such as Wuxiang jujube cake and dry cake, etc. In terms of natural landscape, the Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon (Wuxiang section) is steep and beautiful, and it is a tourist destination integrating red education, folk experience and ecological sightseeing.
