Hebei Canal in China: A Thousand-Year-Old Cultural Corridor of Transportation
The Hebei Canal of China is an important part of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, mainly covering the Hebei section of the Wei Canal and the South Canal, flowing through Handan, Xingtai, Hengshui and Cangzhou, with a total length of more than 300 kilometers. As a golden waterway for ancient transportation, it witnessed the economic and cultural exchanges between the north and the south from the Sui-Tang Dynasty to the Ming-Qing Dynasty, and gave birth to such cultural heritages as the Iron Lion of Cangzhou and the Xiejiaba of Lianzhen along its banks.
