Located in the southeastern part of China's Guizhou Province, Qiandongnan is the most populous region of China's Miao and Dong ethnic groups, and is famous for its rich ethnic culture and pristine natural landscapes. The capital city of Kaili is the political and economic center of the state.
Traditional buildings such as Miao footstools, Dong drum towers and wind and rain bridges are preserved intact here, and the Great Song of the Dong is listed in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the United Nations. The annual Miao New Year Festival, Lusheng Festival and other ethnic festivals attract tourists from all over the world.
Attractions such as Leigong Mountain National Nature Reserve, Maoyang River Scenic Area and Xijiang Thousand Households Miao Village display unique karst landforms and terraced landscapes. It is an important ecological barrier for the Yangtze and Pearl River Basins, with a forest coverage of over 67%.
Qiandongnan has developed through the model of "ethnic culture tourism + ecotourism", and the high-speed railway network has made transportation more convenient. Specialties such as sour soup fish, beef and sheep yak, as well as handicrafts such as Miao embroidery and silver jewelry are important tourist attractions.
