About San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan is the capital and largest city of Puerto Rico, located on the north coast of the main island in the northeastern Caribbean Sea. As the political, economic and cultural center of Puerto Rico, a self-governing U.S. state, the city blends its Spanish colonial past with modern urban dynamism. Its Old Town (San Felipe's Cape Castle and San Cristobal's Castle), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its colorful architecture and cobblestone streets.
San Juan has a tropical rainforest climate with year-round warmth and a strong tourism industry with popular attractions such as Condado Beach. The economy is dominated by finance, pharmaceuticals and shipping, and the Port of San Juan is one of the busiest in the Caribbean. The city has a population of about 400,000, speaks both Spanish and English, and is culturally characterized by salsa music and traditional festivals such as the Fiesta de San Juan.
